The trip is schedule for March 31 – April 7, 2025. Travel with Mexican culinary experts and chefs to learn about local produce, craftsmanship, and, of course, classic street food staples like guisados, tacos al pastor, and freshly made tamales, with a stop at Pujol, the two-Michelin-starred restaurant from chef Enrique Olvera that frequently tops the list of the best restaurants in the world. And don’t forget about mezcal. Enjoy a tasting session that will open your palate to the many varieties of the smoky spirit—no trip to Mexico is complete without a sip and a lesson about one of Mexico’s most important products.

The trip continues to the historic city of Puebla to discover what goes into making one of the world’s greatest foods, mole, during a private cooking class. The visit to Puebla includes a stop at the famous Talavera pottery factory to witness the intricate craftmanship that forms each pottery piece, and embarks on a day trip to the picturesque town of Atlixco, known for its volcanic vistas and colonial charm. From a deep dive into Mexico City taco culture, to learning about ancient culinary techniques, to visiting renowned restaurants that celebrate the connection between the land and the plate, this tour is your opportunity to taste and delight in the unique flavors of Mexican cuisine.

ITINERARY

Day 1: ¡Bienvenido a Cuidad de México!
Arrive on individual flights into Mexico City (Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez, MEX) and transfer independently to your hotel. Meet your fellow travelers and cohosts, Jenny Rosenstrach and Matt Rodbard, during a welcome reception, then enjoy dinner at Rosetta, where Chef Elena Reygadas reimagines traditional Mexican dishes with seasonal ingredients and a menu that changes daily.

Day 2: The Colors of Mexico City
Travel through some of Mexico City’s most interesting neighborhoods on a street food tour for a taste of iconic dishes like tacos al pastor, freshly made tamales, guisados, and outrageously good tortas. Afterward, attend an exclusive mezcal tasting at MisMezcales, which offers dozens of artisanal and ancestral varieties of the smoky spirit with flavor profiles ranging from light and floral to deep, dark, and earthy. Dinner and the rest of the evening will be at your leisure.

Day 3: Michelin-Starred Mexico
In the morning, explore La Condesa neighborhood on a guided walking tour, an area known for its many beautiful examples of art deco and neocolonial architecture. Then enjoy a private cooking class at Expendio de Maiz Sin Nombre, where Chef Jesús Salas Tornés highlights native ingredients and culinary traditions found in rural and indigenous communities. After an afternoon at your leisure, gather for wine and canapés at Pujol, Chef Enrique Olvera’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant that is considered one of the best in the world.

Day 4: This Floating City

Visit Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the last remnants of a vast water transport system built by the Aztecs. Stroll through the stalls of the vibrant Mercado de Xochimilco, visit the 16th-century San Bernardino de Siena Church, and travel through the canals on a trajinera, a colorful boat, to a farm built on a floating chinampa designed to support ancient agriculture. Gather for a farm-to-table lunch made with local, organic ingredients like spinach, huitlacoche, and squash blossom. Return to your hotel, where the remainder of the day will be yours to enjoy in Mexico City.

Day 5: City of the Angels

Check out of your hotel and travel by private coach to Puebla, founded in 1531 as Puebla de Los Ángeles and now known for its colorful textiles, traditional pottery, and flavorful cuisine. Along the way, Jenny and Matt will discuss what it’s like to write and develop a cookbook, from initial inspiration to final publication. There will be time for a Q&A, so get your cookbook questions ready! Arrive in Puebla and enjoy a private tour of the Uriarte Talavera factory, which has been making traditional Talavera pottery since 1824 with production techniques that go back to the 16th century. Afterward, explore Puebla on a guided walking tour including the zócalo (main square), the stunning Capilla del Rosario, and the Mercado de Sabores, where you will have the opportunity to browse the dozens of stalls and enjoy lunch on your own. In the evening, gather for dinner at Mural de los Poblanos.

Day 6: One Sauce, Twenty-Five Ingredients

Today you will learn the secrets behind traditional Poblano cuisine during a private cooking class, where you will have the opportunity to make and taste classic dishes like chiles en nogada, chalupas poblanas, tortitas de Santa Clara, and, of course, mole poblano. In the afternoon, travel to Atlixco, known for its colorful murals, charming colonial buildings, and sweeping views of the Popocatépetl volcano, the second-highest peak in Mexico. Enjoy a guided tour of the city as well as time for independent exploration. Return to Puebla, where dinner and the rest of the evening will be at your leisure.

Day 7: Return to CDMX

Check out of your hotel and travel by private coach to Mexico City. Enjoy an independent lunch in Mercado de San Juan, a sprawling food market where you’ll find everything from fruit and vegetable stands to juice bars, fish counters, and specialty purveyors selling gourmet cheeses, rare game meats, and classic Mexican pastries. In the evening, raise a toast to your travels during a farewell dinner at Entremar, a seafood restaurant headed by chef Gabriela Cámara.

Day 8: Adios Por Ahora
